If I recall correctly, this time last week I was optimistic cheerfulness personified. More fool me. I forgot that I was heading into what is always my worst week of the year....not only do we have the dreadful prospect of sugar loaded children rampaging around the village this evening ? how I loathe Halloween - , it is the week I have to renew my annual rail ticket and to cap it all the clocks have gone back and itfs now dark at five. There was one joyous incident. Hen went into Cambridge to meet a friend who came back on the train with her to Newmarket to stay the night. According to her friend who related the incident over dinner that evening, they were chugging along the line, looking out the window at the gathering gloom and bemoaning how quickly the nights were drawing in (NB the youth of today are not that different from us really ) when Hen exclaimed "OMG...did you see that?......it's suddenly gone dark." "We've gone into a tunnel Hen" explained the friend. True story.
Oh and there was another gem. With the children off for half term I adopted the modern man approach to parenting and have spent the week in the office phoning in occasionally to check all was well back at the ranch. Bob, my 11 year answered the phone at one point and when I asked him what he was up to, revealed that he was playing Julip models (horsey equivalent of Barbie dolls) with Lottie, his 7 year old sister and her friend Lilly. There was a brief pause and you could almost feel a wave of manly self consciousness hit him. "Maybe I'll get my SAS Survival book and go outside and build a den."
Talking of horsey things, and I know this is not what we brokers are meant to do, but I want to put my new found skill-set to work for you. Sariska ? in the 12.20 at Newmarket tomorrow....I feel quietly confident.....
