22nd February, 2008

Hey ho.... another CLSA Forum. Off to Tokyo tomorrow and so will be out of the office next week and tucked up in bed by 9pm every evening no doubt. The level of gloominess towards Japan is all pervasive and I must admit Ifm caught up in it too. Can’t see a way out until a real crisis hits. Perhaps Norinchukin Bank rumours presage this, but CDO exposure remains stubbornly denied and it feels like whether or not a large chunk of the missing trillions does turn up on Japanese bank balance sheets people are not going to give them the benefit of the doubt so we’re stuck between a Northern Rock and a hard place. Anyway, we have a fantastic line up of companies and more clients than ever attending so all is not lost. And if, perhaps, things are likely to remain a little dull and subdued for a while longer there is the prospect of an evening with Fergie (not the Duchess) to cheer us up. Actually I don’t know who Fergie is which almost, but not quite, puts me in the same boat as the rather smart (socially ) and charming client the other day who told me that his wife was related to her. He was talking about the former member of the Royal Family I think we can safely presume.

Things are seemingly not likely to be dull when our French exchange arrives in a couple of months time. I attach a copy of a form (student exchange.pdf) which arrived the other day, mostly written in French, but with a bit of paper stuck on, detailing, in English, what this 13 year old girl enjoys doing most.....I have to say I smell a rat, but if someone hasn't played a trick on her, we are in for a challenging week whichever way you look at it.
