11th June, 2004

Wedding anniversary today. 16 years.....aaaaagh!
We were in Greece last week as you know and saw two theatres at Epidavros. In one, an operating theatre in a little provincial hospital, my 6 year old son had 5 stitches inserted into his head following a swimming pool accident. In the other, I saw really quite a bizarre sight. The Ancient Theatre at Epidaurus is a wonderful place with renowned acoustics. Seated in the top seats, 34 rows up, you can hear a coin dropped onto the centre stage. Anyway, there must have been a couple of hundred tourists there and the place was enthralled by three elderly Italians who sang a most wonderfully resonant aria. It was fantastic actually, but had the unfortunate effect of inspiring a group of teenage school children, also Italian, to do something similar. Four disshevelled youths shuffled down to the front and lined up to perform. I almost fell off my seat when they launched, in English, into, "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd (1980 ). Strange, but true. What is the Continental youth of today coming to?
Hope you are not all getting too excited about Engerland's prospects. There will only be disappointment.
