6th January, 2003

No we havn't taken up coverage of this stock, but flying to Edinbugh on Friday evening I was once again struck by EasyJet's nose for a deal. It took them about a week and a half having taken over Go in the summer to scrap the rather nice personal coffee pots Go used to give you. This time I noticed, as I checked out the calorific values, that the tonic water and the Pringles that I ordered to go with my gin had obviously come via Greece, this despite Stelios' departure from the board. Interesting. I havn't done any more investigative work on this, but it looks to me as though they are exploiting a pricing differential here. Sourcing goods in Greece for drachma and selling them in the UK for Sterling. They don't miss a trick. Also of interest was the fact that the Gordons was the Export variety, so whilst it might not have been Duty Free it certainly hadn't been bought in Luton either! All of this for the bargain basement price of £7.50. Living close to Stansted Airport these low price airlines are something of a bug bear of mine. I resent the subsidies and concessions that allow them to offer me flights to Scotland for less than the price of a gin and tonic, albeit one of theirs! I think it's unsustainable...and noisy! In the meantime though EasyJet are having their cake and one way or another people are paying them to eat it.
