Friday 11th July, 2014

What is it about me and air travel?  There was the “when Copenhagen became the capital of Sweden” moment.  Another time when I had to add Hen’s boyfriend to our skiing holiday and booked him on a flight a month after the event.  Oh and we once arrived at Heathrow heading on a family holiday to Antigua only to find we had to leave our five year old behind as I hadn’t noticed her passport had expired.  So there was great excitement yesterday, particularly for Sophie who hadn’t seen our GAP adventurer Jimmy for almost five months, which eased the pain of a 5.00am trip round the M25 to Gatwick.  Luckily – for me – she was still at home brushing her teeth or whatever when I discovered I had got the wrong day.  Easy mistake actually.  Jimmy was flying in from NY and though she left on the 10th that means she arrives today.   Any minute now in fact though that’s another story.  But I am not in Sophies good books fair to say.

You may be aware that Portugal is a little troubled at the moment, but the dark clouds certainly gathered over Lisbon this morning.  Jimmy arrived on the Air Portugal flight from New York at 6.00am only to discover she had been checked onto a later flight to London and a further six hours in Lisbon airport loomed.  She had nine hours there on the way out to the US when her plane was delayed.  A general sense of decency prohibits me from including much of my text message exchange…so leave it at this….you’ll get the picture   “I can’t believe this another 6hour wait with no book, no iPod no money nothing. Fantastic”

A 70 year old man who she befriended on the way out to the States and shared ice-cream and cigarettes with aside, Jimmy has never been that good at chatting to strangers.  Bob is a different matter.  Did I tell you he headed off to Newquay last Sunday to teach himself how to surf? Really havn’t heard too much about the big waves and all that stuff, but at least we knew he was alive when a photo arrived and a message… “I found a boquet of flowers” and shortly after another “ Made a takeaway thai ladies day yesterday! “ ( I can tell you that made me pause for a moment.) “I walked past and suddenly remembered so said suadicap or however you spell it and was very impressed!!”   He is a very strange boy that one.

Oh I have to tell you one more thing that is sensational news really.  We went to the Horseheath Country Show last Sunday.  Entered the “Prettiest Bitch” class and Sophie, though Fertie really did most of the work, only went and won it….so happy about that.
