Friday 2nd August, 2013

You’ll appreciate that sometimes I just need to get things off my chest however tedious they are. This happens most Friday afternoons you may well say.  Anyway, I left home as per at 5.10am this morning. Drove to Whittlesford Parkway having picked up the Daily Telegraph in Newmarket pausing to say good morning to the motor-bike man in the hi-viz jacket who occasionally admires my car and got on the 5.39am train to Liverpool Street.  An hour and a quarter later, having made it as far south as Bishops Stortford where all trains to London were cancelled due to an overhead line failure at Broxbourne, I was back at Whittlesford Parkway heading up to Cambridge from where I was able to catch a train to Kings Cross eventually arriving at the office at 8.40am.  My journey from home had taken 3 and a 1/2 hours. The lengths I go to look after you dear clients.

Och, it wasn’t so bad really.  I just kind of switched off and trundled on, a bit like on my Race to the Stones which I may have told you about already.  In any case I had been thinking about how quickly time can pass if you work at it, as I was sent a couple of photographs by Sophie.  She had taken Bob, now relieved of his plaster cast, down to the Suffolk coast to indulge in his true passion, fishing.  As you can see he was focussed completely on the job at hand and oblivious to the fact that after a ( fruitless ) hour or so, he was marooned.  Indeed the nearest he came to a fish all day was wading waist deep back to the shore when he apparently nearly stood on an enormous cod-looking thing and also a sea-snake.  So, no fish for supper but he did harvest a considerable stack of samphire which if you havn’t had it before is totally delicious.

I do have to take a bit of an early bath today actually.  Huge excitement in the Sandison household.  It was one of the questions I included in the quiz that I was asked to compile and compere for last Sunday evenings entertainment at Lottie’s Pony Club Camp.  “Which band are playing at Newmarket Racecourse next Friday?”  Well, shame on the members and instructors of the Newmarket and Thurlow Pony Club, but the only person in the entire camp who got it was Lottie. The answer should have been known to one and all.  We’re talking about the blinking Kaiser Chiefs!!   I might have sent you the link below some years back….2007 in fact.  If you do manage to get to the end of the clip Bob is called “sweet” by one of the teachers.  If only she could see him now.  At the time he too thought this was the final indignity.  But some things can come back to haunt you!
