God’s honest truth, my internet access and Remote Desktop is driving me potty so though it was with the best intentions that I sneaked out of the CEO Forum here in Tokyo, I have been foiled. I was going to send you some meaty chunks of research, but that will have to wait till I am back in the office on Monday. That is if I am still in one piece. It was a close run thing last night. Tokyo has more Michelin star restaurants than any other city on earth so I am told. That’s as may be. I had an enormous long only institutional and very senior client in tow and an opportunity to wine and dine him on the corporate credit card. And where do we end up having entrusted the choice of restaurant to one of my colleagues, an old Japan hand, but the most revolting place I have ever been to. “Andy’s”. Given my technological problems here I am not entirely sure the attached photo is viewable. If it is, trust me when I say that the alluring menu tells just a fraction of the story. Two enormous chunks of grilled shoulder of tuna will live long in the memory. I am pretty sure they were about to be chucked into the sea, along with a trail of blood and guts as shark bait, but then someone had the bright idea…. “Hey, I’m sure we could sell these to Andy” and they ended up in front of us. Smelly and high and rank. Simon didn’t order Cod Sp@rm and he also managed to arrange for us not to be sitting on the table literally two feet from the loo so please don’t think I’m not grateful. Och, never mind. It was a laugh and he’s never been that good a client tbh.
Other than that I’ve had a great time and I promise I will write up some thoughts. It has been a packed and interesting week and if I get invited back you must come next year. Apart from Andy’s the only disappointment is that I didn’t manage to get out for a run with Lord Coe, sorry, I mean Seb ( my new best friend). So Georgette’s 800metre record remains unchallenged, but I have been round the Imperial Palace three times and, for those in the know, one of these was clockwise.
I’m rambling and the computer link is still maddeningly slow so I’m out of here. Have a good weekend.
